Job Title: Personal Care Aide (PCA)
Job Location: client homes in Waterford, NY
Available Shifts: 12 hour shifts – Days: 7am to 7pm, Nights: 7pm to 7am
Pay Rate: $17.55 / hour

Locations are generally NOT on a bus route, so applicants MUST have reliable transportation to and from the client’s home.

Personal Care Aide Job Description:

Personal care services include assistance with personal hygiene, dressing, feeding and incidental household tasks, essential to the provision of home health care, in accordance with a plan of care, and supervised by a registered professional nurse.

Essential Functions include:

  • Completes all duties listed on the aide care plan.
  • Assists with personal care of the client, including: bathing, skin care, mouth care, hair care, shampoo, shaving, dressing, Assistance on and off bedpan. commode, toilet, as documented by review of daily activity record and direct observation.
  • May assist with transfer to or from bed, chair, or wheelchair, and with ambulation after proper instruction.
  • Prepare and serve meals and assist with feeding as documented by review of daily activity record.
  • Preparation of meals in accordance with modified diets, including low sugar, low fat, low salt and low residue diets, as prescribed by a qualified professional. Assists with preparation of mechanically altered diets (puree, chopped, ground).
  • Assist with routine skin care, including application of non-prescription skin care products.
  • Assist with changing simple dressing.
  • Measure intake and output when requested and keeps record of same
  • Weighing of client.
  • Performs incidental household task essential to the client’s physical and psychological well-being. These tasks include, but are not limited to, light housekeeping, making and changing the client’s bed, dusting and vacuuming client’s bedroom, washing dishes. tidying kitchen and bathroom. listing needed supplies, marketing, laundry (including ironing and mending).
  • Assists with the use of Elastic Support Stockings.
  • Assists with a condom Catheter (Texas Catheter) and emptying urinary drainage bag.
  • Completes daily activity records and pay records.
  • Completes verbal and written reports per agency policies.
  • Observes and reports immediately any gross physical and behavioral changes and unusual conditions in the patient’s environment as documented in progress notes and by receipt of phone calls.
  • Reports to the agency during the same shift, any accident involving an aide or client.
  • Submits all written documentation on a timely basis in accordance with agency policies.
  • Demonstrates a positive, supportive attitude to clients, families and other personnel consistently, and in emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Presents agency in a positive manner to clients, families, physicians and other personnel.
  • Maintains confidential client and agency information.
  • Utilizes Supervisor/Management in resolving complaints, grievances or problems.
  • Seeks education and learning experiences in areas of identified growth needs and reviews progress during annual evaluation.
  • Exhibits timely, satisfactory completion of assignments with minimal assistance.
  • Maintains responsibility of attendance and punctuality.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as indicated.
  • Completes NYS inservice requirements based on certification type.
  • Completes mandatory inservice program and annual health requirements.
  • Follows infection control practice.
  • Allows clients to exercise bill of rights.
  • Prepared for emergencies by having telephone numbers for police/fire/paramedics and agency in close proximity.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be a certified PCA, HHA, or CNA
  • CNA’s will be transitioned to HHA with a training class
  • Must be able to read, write, carry out directions, use the telephone, and communicate verbally
  • Must meet health requirements
